ER70S-2 / Auto Tig (Root-Pass Standard)
Mild-steel TIG rod with triple-deoxidiser chemistry (silicon + manganese + titanium + zirconium + aluminium) — for root-pass welding in pipe + tube. Excellent puddle control and tolerance for poor fit-up. AWS A5.18. The standard root-pass rod for refinery boiler tube T11, T22 work. Diameters 1.6, 2.4, 3.2 mm.
ER70S-6 (Silicon-Rich General)
Silicon-manganese deoxidised mild-steel TIG rod — for general fabrication TIG welding where root quality is less critical. Smoother arc, more puddle wetting than ER70S-2. AWS A5.18.
ER308L Stainless TIG Rod
Stainless TIG rod for 304/304L parent metal. Low-carbon (≤0.04%) deposit prevents intergranular corrosion. AWS A5.9. Workhorse for pharma equipment fabrication, dairy tanks, food-processing equipment. Diameters 1.6, 2.0, 2.4, 3.2 mm.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why ER70S-2 specifically for root-pass TIG welding?
ER70S-2 contains additional deoxidiser elements (titanium, zirconium, aluminium beyond the standard silicon + manganese) — these absorb and neutralise residual oxygen in the puddle, producing a cleaner, more porosity-free weld bead. Root-pass welding is especially sensitive to oxygen contamination because the back-side of the weld isn't shielded by gas — purging gas helps but isn't perfect. ER70S-2's extra deoxidisers provide insurance against root porosity. ER70S-6 (silicon-rich) is fine for fill-pass and general TIG but not preferred for root-pass on critical pipework.
What's the difference between ER308L and ER316L stainless TIG rods?
ER308L is for welding 304 / 304L parent metal — general stainless service. ER316L contains 2-3% molybdenum (added to the deposit chemistry) — for welding 316 / 316L parent metal where chloride or pitting corrosion is a concern. Pharma pure-steam piping, marine seawater systems, chemical plants with chlorides — all use 316L parent + ER316L filler. Both are low-carbon (≤0.04%) — the 'L' prevents intergranular corrosion. Match filler to parent: never use ER308L on 316 (loses molybdenum benefit) or ER316L on 304 (unnecessary cost).
How long are the standard TIG filler rods, and what pack sizes do you supply?
Standard length: 1 metre / 3 feet (industry standard, fits typical TIG welding workbenches). Pack: 5 kg tube (typically 60-180 rods depending on diameter). Bulk packs: 25 kg cartons (5 × 5kg tubes), 50 kg cartons (10 tubes). Lengths can be cut on order — some pharma fab shops use 0.5 m / 18-inch rods for sanitary work where rod handling is more sensitive.
Are Ador chrome-moly TIG rods (ER80S-B2, ER90S-B3) qualified for refinery boiler tube work?
Yes. Ador ER80S-B2 (1.25Cr-0.5Mo) and ER90S-B3 (2.25Cr-1Mo) chrome-moly TIG rods are widely qualified for refinery boiler tube root-pass welding per ASME Section IX procedures. Used by HPCL, BPCL, IOCL boiler turnaround contractors and pressure-vessel fabricators. We provide PQR-support documentation per ASME Section II Part C. Always check your project's specific WPS for filler classification before order.
Do I need a back-purge for TIG root-pass on stainless steel?
Yes for all chloride-exposed service (pharma, chemical, marine). Back-purging with argon (or 95/5 Ar/H2 for stainless) prevents oxidation of the root-pass underside — oxidation creates 'sugar' (heat-tinted oxide scale) that promotes corrosion in service. Pharma equipment fabrication treats back-purging as mandatory. Pure-argon back-purge for general fabrication; argon-hydrogen mix for premium stainless work. Failure to back-purge causes early corrosion failure of high-purity stainless systems.
How should TIG rods be stored to prevent contamination?
Keep rods in original packaging until needed. Once a tube is opened, transfer rods to a dry, covered tube container. Never lay TIG rods on dirty workbenches — surface contamination (oil, grease, dust) burns into the weld and creates inclusions. Don't touch rod ends with bare hands — finger oils contaminate. Use clean cotton gloves for rod handling. Reject rods with surface oxidation, rust, or visible contamination.
