Hardfacing Advice Before the Order
Deposit hardness is not the only variable — impact, substrate, number of layers and whether the part will ever be re-welded all change the alloy. We will look at the worn part and recommend the grade, and say when a wear plate or a ceramic-lined section is the cheaper answer than repeated hardfacing.
Quench Bath Analysis, Not Just Drum Supply
Water ingress into a quench bath causes soft spots and cracking long before anyone sees a problem in a part. We coordinate viscosity, acid number, water content and carbon residue testing for supply customers and read the trend against your baseline.

What We Supply a Foundry
Hardfacing & Wear Protection — Ador
Zedalloy chromium-carbide hardfacing electrodes: Zedalloy 600 and Zedalloy 350 at 55–62 HRC deposit hardness, and Zedalloy 550, a high-chromium iron-based deposit at 60–65 HRC for severe abrasion with moderate impact. Flux-cored wires (Zedalloy OA-460, OA-560, GS-500) for semi-automatic and robotic deposition, plus Zedalloy solid wire for TIG and MIG work on smaller components.
Wear Plate & Ceramic-Lined Sections
Pre-hardfaced weld-overlay clad plate — mild-steel substrate with a chromium-carbide overlay — bolted or welded into chutes, hoppers and cyclones. Alumina-ceramic-lined steel pipe and elbows for sand reclamation lines, shot-blast returns and pneumatic conveying, where re-hardfacing a wear point every quarter costs more than lining it once.
Welding Consumables for the Fabrication Bay
Ador mild-steel electrodes — Superbond E6013, Supabase E7018, Tenalloy 16 W E7016 and Topstar 140 E7024 — for moulding boxes, jigs, ladle frames and general plant fabrication. Stainless and dissimilar work on Betanox DL (E309L-16) and Betanox 4462 (E2209-16 duplex); Superinox 1C, 2C, 1B and 312 for the austenitic grades.
Heat Treatment — Veedol Quenchol
Veedol’s heat treatment oil, and their whole quench range: Quenchol, meeting IS 2664:1980 (reaffirmed 2014). 29.8 cSt at 40°C, viscosity index 99, flash point 200°C, pour point −3°C. Recommended by Veedol for normal quenching operations across a wide range of steels. Martempering, vacuum-furnace and polymer quenchants are sourced against your furnace maker’s approved-fluid list.
Machining the Casting
Soluble and neat cutting fluids for turning, milling and drilling cast iron and steel — Veedol Adacut and GS Caltex Kixx Cutting Oil SL — plus Veedol Anodrip 32, 68 and 220 slideway oils to IS 1115 and ISO 19378 for machine-tool ways. Coolant concentration control and sump-life advice included; a foundry machine shop usually loses more to coolant mismanagement than to tooling.
Hydraulics, Gears and Bearings
Moulding line and core-shooter hydraulics on Balmerol Catmatsu HTX ISO VG 32–100, Balmerol Protomac H 32/46/68 or Veedol Avalon HLP to IS 11656. Gearboxes on Veedol Industrial Gear EP ISO VG 100–680 or Balmerol Protomac SP to IS 8406. Bearings on Balmerol Liprex EP lithium grease, and Balmerol CCSM HT calcium sulfonate complex where heat, water and load arrive together — shakeout, sand plant and shot blast.
Fire and Electrical Protection
A foundry is a building with molten metal, oil-quench baths and a lot of combustible dust in it. HD Fire sprinklers, deluge valves and monitors for the melt bay, oil store and quench area, sized to IS 15105 and NFPA 13. Citel surge protective devices to IEC 61643-11 on induction furnace controls, PLC cabinets and instrument loops — a furnace control card is a long lead time and a stopped melt.

The South India Foundry Belt
Foundry work in South India concentrates in a handful of clusters, each with a different mix of castings and therefore a different consumable profile. We stock and dispatch to all of them from Secunderabad, and the products below are chosen to match what each cluster actually pours.
- Coimbatore and the Kovai belt (Tamil Nadu): the largest foundry concentration in South India — pump and motor castings, textile machinery components, automotive castings and job-work grey iron. High volumes of grey and ductile iron, heavy machining downstream, and a strong pump industry that runs its own machine shops.
- Belagavi and Hubballi (Karnataka): ferrous and non-ferrous foundries feeding automotive, hydraulic and agricultural equipment manufacturers, with a large concentration of aluminium high-pressure die casting alongside grey iron.
- Ballari and Hospet (Karnataka): steel and mining country. Foundries here run alongside sponge iron and rolling operations, and the wear duty is severe — abrasion on chutes, screens and material handling is the dominant maintenance cost, which is where wear plate and ceramic lining pay for themselves.
- Hyderabad, Balanagar and Patancheru (Telangana): engineering and defence-linked casting and fabrication, aerospace and general engineering job shops. Smaller batch sizes, tighter specification, more stainless and dissimilar welding, more documentation required with every despatch.
- Vijayawada, Guntur and Nellore (Andhra Pradesh): agricultural equipment, pump and general engineering castings serving the delta industrial belt, with foundry work feeding local fabrication and irrigation equipment manufacturers.
Beyond Supply
Hardfacing Selection Survey
We look at the worn component, the wear mechanism and the substrate, then recommend an alloy and a deposition route — stick, flux-cored or clad plate. Where re-hardfacing is being done more than twice a year, we will usually recommend a plate or ceramic lining instead and show you the arithmetic.
Quench Bath and Used-Oil Analysis
Viscosity at 40°C, total acid number, water content and carbon residue, sampled from the circulating bath at temperature. We read the trend rather than the single result, and give you a change-out recommendation with a date. Coordinated with Indian laboratories for supply customers.
Coolant Management for the Machine Shop
Concentration control, sump cleaning intervals, tramp-oil removal and bacterial control. Most foundry machine shops are running coolant well outside the recommended concentration in at least one machine, and it shows up as tool life and finish before anyone blames the fluid.
Annual Rate Contracts and Bulk Logistics
Fixed-price annual contracts on consumable lines with scheduled call-off, so a shutdown is not the first time anyone checks stock. Drums, 20 L pails, IBCs and tanker where volume justifies it.

Which hardfacing alloy should I use on a shot-blast impeller?
Impellers are high-abrasion, low-impact, so a high-chromium iron-based deposit is usually right — Zedalloy 550 at 60-65 HRC, or Zedalloy 600 where the abrasive is particularly fine. Where the impeller is being rebuilt more than twice a year, a chromium-carbide clad plate insert or a replacement wear part is normally cheaper over a year than repeated deposition. Send us a photograph of the worn part and the blast media you use and we will give you a written recommendation.
What quenching oil do you supply, and what is it rated to?
Veedol Quenchol, which is Veedol’s whole quench range — one grade, not a family. It meets IS 2664:1980 (reaffirmed 2014), and its published typical properties are 29.8 cSt at 40°C, viscosity index 99, flash point 200°C and pour point -3°C. Veedol recommend it for normal quenching operations on a wide variety of steel. Veedol publish no quench-severity figure for it, so if your process is specified to a GM Quenchometer H-factor we will get that confirmed in writing before you order rather than quote you a number from a table.
Can you supply martempering or vacuum quench oil?
Yes, sourced. Martempering baths run at 130-180°C and vacuum quench fluids are selected on vapour pressure against the furnace maker’s own approved-fluid list — Ipsen, Schmetz, ALD and Aichelin all publish one. Neither is in the Veedol range, so we source them from makers who rate a fluid for that duty and quote against a datasheet. Give us the furnace model and the bath temperature.
Which electrodes for welding moulding boxes and ladle frames?
For general mild-steel plant fabrication, Ador Superbond E6013 for light work and Supabase E7018 for anything structural or restrained — the low-hydrogen grade matters on thick, rigid sections where hydrogen cracking is the risk. Tenalloy 16 W E7016 and Topstar 140 E7024 cover the low-hydrogen and high-deposition-rate ends of the same range. For stainless or dissimilar joints use Betanox DL (E309L-16); for duplex, Betanox 4462 (E2209-16).
How often should a quench bath be sampled?
Quarterly for single-shift operation, monthly if you run continuously or if the bath has taken water at any point. Watch viscosity at 40°C against the 29.8 cSt baseline, total acid number, water content and carbon residue, and change on the trend rather than on a date. Water is the failure worth watching: it produces soft spots and quench cracking, and it shows in a sample long before it shows in a part.
Do you supply fire protection for the melt bay and oil store?
Yes. We are an HD Fire Protect distributor for sprinklers, deluge valves, foam pourers and monitors. A foundry has three distinct fire problems — molten metal and hot work in the melt bay, an oil-quench bath, and combustible dust in the sand and shot-blast plant — and they need different answers. Systems are designed to IS 15105 and NFPA 13 for sprinklers, and IS 12835 and NFPA 11 where foam applies. Hydrant and pump packages are sourced from their manufacturers, not from HD Fire.
Why does a lubricant supplier sell surge protection?
Because an induction furnace control cabinet is the single most expensive thing in a foundry to lose to a lightning transient, and the lead time on a replacement card stops the melt. We supply Citel surge protective devices to IEC 61643-11 for furnace controls, PLC cabinets, instrument loops and weighbridge electronics. It is the same purchase department, the same site survey and the same delivery.
Do you supply outside Telangana and Andhra Pradesh?
Yes, pan-India through our group network, with the Coimbatore, Belagavi-Hubballi and Ballari-Hospet foundry belts served regularly. Stocked lines dispatch same day from the Secunderabad warehouse; sourced items are quoted with a lead time rather than an assurance.
