Most modern ring frames run ISO VG 10 or VG 15 spindle oil; high-speed inserts above 22,000 rpm may specify VG 5-8, older frames VG 22. The oil must be light-coloured, anti-wear and anti-rust with low volatility. What makes a coning or knitting oil 'scourable'?
