How to choose an industrial grease

| Speed and load | Fast, lightly loaded bearings take a thinner base oil; slow, heavily loaded or shock-loaded bearings need a thicker base oil and EP additives |
| Temperature | Lithium greases suit general duty; lithium complex and calcium sulphonate complex greases hold up at higher temperatures |
| Water | Calcium sulphonate complex greases resist water washout and corrosion best — steel, paper and wet process plants |

Frequently Asked Questions
Which grease is best for general industrial bearings?
For most electric motor, pump and conveyor bearings a lithium EP grease of NLGI 2 is the usual choice, such as Veedol Alithex EP 2 or Balmerol Liprex EP 2. Hotter bearings move to a lithium complex grease, and wet duty to a calcium sulphonate complex grease.
What is the difference between lithium and lithium complex grease?
Lithium complex grease has a higher drop point and holds its structure at higher temperatures. Veedol Alithex EP 2 has a published drop point of 198 °C; Veedol Alicom 2, a lithium complex grease, has 264 °C.
When should I use calcium sulphonate grease?
Where water, steam or washdown would wash out a lithium grease, and where corrosion protection matters, as in steel mills, paper machines and wet process plants. Veedol Calsol 2 Pro has a published drop point above 300 °C.
Can I mix two different greases?
Not without checking. Greases with different thickeners can soften or harden when mixed. Purge the old grease out of the bearing when changing type, or ask us to check compatibility.
Do you supply food-grade grease?
Yes. SELCO SG-330 is an NSF H1 registered food-grade grease for food, beverage and pharma plants.
