What is a thermic fluid?
A thermic fluid, or heat transfer oil, carries heat from a heater to process equipment in a closed loop, so plants can heat to high temperatures without high-pressure steam. Mineral thermic fluids are the most common type.
How do I choose a thermic fluid grade?
Start from the maximum bulk fluid temperature in your system and the heater design. The fluid must be rated above that temperature by its maker. Send us the heater details and we match the grade.
Can I top up with a different thermic fluid?
Topping up with the same fluid is best. Mixing different fluids needs a compatibility check, because a lower-rated fluid can limit the whole charge.
When should thermic fluid be changed?
When tests show high acid number, high carbon residue, a falling flash point or large viscosity change. Annual testing tells you before the heater tubes suffer.
