Kobelco Equivalents — Welding Consumable Cross-Reference
If your procedure names a Kobelco consumable and you want to know which Ador product carries the same classification, this page answers it class by class. We are not an authorised Kobelco distributor. Kobelco and the product names on this page are trademarks of Kobe Steel, Ltd., used here only to identify products a buyer may be searching for. We are authorised distributors for Veedol, GS Caltex, Balmer Lawrie, SELCO, Ador Welding, HD Fire and Citel. We are authorised distributors for Ador Welding, and every equivalence below is stated on the AWS classification both makers publish. Kobelco’s designations are widely misquoted — LB-52 is not an E7018 and MG-50 is not an ER70S-6 — so the first job here is getting the class right before matching anything to it.
Three Kobelco Designations That Are Routinely Misquoted
LB-52 is E7016, not E7018
Kobelco publish LB-52 as AWS A5.1 E7016 at 570 MPa typical. The E7018 in the same family is LB-52-18. The two are ordered interchangeably across Indian fabrication shops and they are different classifications with different coating systems and different running characteristics. If your procedure was written from a packet label rather than a datasheet, this is worth checking before anything else.
MG-50 is ER70S-G, not ER70S-6
Kobelco publish MG-50 as AWS A5.18 ER70S-G — the “G” means the composition is not fixed by the specification. Their ER70S-6 is MG-51T. If your WPS calls for ER70S-6 and the store is issuing MG-50, the deposit chemistry is not what the procedure assumed.
B-17 is E6019, not E6013
Kobelco publish B-17 as AWS A5.1 E6019. Their E6013 products are RB-26, Z-44 and B-33. E6019 and E6013 are both rutile-family but they are separate classifications with different iron-powder and slag systems.
The AWS Classification Is the Only Defensible Basis
Once the class is right, matching is straightforward: a consumable is interchangeable when it carries the same AWS A5.x classification, because that fixes deposit chemistry, mechanical properties and position capability. Trade names tell you nothing.
Kobelco Publish No IS Number. Ador Do.
Kobelco publish AWS, EN and ASME F-No./A-No. and nothing Indian. Ador publish IS 814 on covered electrodes, IS 5206 on stainless, IS 5511 on cast iron, IS 6419 and IS 5856 on wires and IS 15769 on flux-cored. Where a PSU tender is written in IS terms, that removes a translation step.

Class by Class — Kobelco Product, AWS Class, Ador Equivalent
Low-hydrogen — AWS E7016
Kobelco publish LB-52 (570 MPa typical, 483 min), LB-52U (560 typical) and LB-26 (550 typical) as AWS A5.1 E7016. The Ador equivalent is Tenalloy 16 — AWS A5.1 E7016, IS 814 code EB5426H3X, 560 MPa typical against 490 MPa minimum. Tenalloy 16W is the same class at 520 MPa typical where a softer deposit suits the joint, and Tenalloy 16 Spl is the E7016-1 grade.
Low-hydrogen — AWS E7018
Kobelco LB-52-18 is AWS A5.1 E7018 at 560 MPa typical. The Ador equivalent is Supabase (E7018, IS 814 EB5426H3JX, 540 MPa) or Supabase X Plus (E7018, 555 MPa). Ador have no product named “Tenalloy 18” — plain E7018 is Supabase, and the Tenalloy name appears on E7018 only in the -1 and -G suffixed grades such as Tenalloy Z Plus and Tenalloy S Plus.
Rutile and cellulosic — E6013, E6019, E6010
Kobelco RB-26 (E6013, 510 MPa typical), Z-44 (E6013, 460) and B-33 (E6013, 480) map to Ador Superbond (E6013, IS 814 ER 4212, 500 MPa) or Kingbond (E6013, ER 4211, 520 MPa). Kobelco KOBE-6010 (E6010) maps to Ador Celwel 60 (E6010, IS 814 E C 4210 X, 525 MPa). For B-17 and the B-10/B-14 family, the class is E6019, and we have not found a published Ador E6019 — so we quote that one on request rather than offering a substitute we cannot classify.
Higher-strength — the LB-62 family
Kobelco LB-62 is AWS A5.5 E9016-G at 650 MPa typical against 621 minimum, and LB-62D is E9018-G. These are 620 MPa-class low-alloy electrodes, not mild-steel low-hydrogen, and they are frequently mis-ordered as such. Ador’s low-alloy range covers the equivalent classes; send the exact class from your procedure and we will name the grade rather than approximate it here.
Stainless — the NC series
Kobelco NC-38L (E308L-16, 580 MPa) maps to Ador Superinox 1C (E308L-16, IS 5206 E19.9 L R26, 590 MPa). NC-39L (E309L-16, 560) maps to Betanox DL (E309L-16, IS 5206 E 23.12 L R26). NC-36L (E316L-16, 580) maps to Superinox 2C (E316L-16, IS 5206 E19.12.2 L R26). NC-37 (E347-16, 670) maps to Superinox 1B (E347-16, E 19.9 Nb R26, 600 MPa). NC-32 (E312-16) maps to Superinox 312 (E312-16, E 29.9 R26). Kobelco publish stainless electrodes in -16 only — no -15 or -17 grades — which makes this the cleanest section of the whole table.
Solid wires — ER70S-6
Kobelco MG-51T is AWS A5.18 ER70S-6 at 560 MPa under CO2 and 600 MPa under Ar-20%CO2. The Ador equivalent is Automig I, ER70S-6, IS 6419 code S4-C 504, at 570 MPa under CO2 and 580 MPa under 80Ar/20CO2. Quote the shielding gas alongside the tensile on both sides, because the number moves with the gas. Kobelco stainless solid wires MG-S308 / MG-S309LS / MG-S316LS map to Ador Miginox 308L / 309L / 316L (ER308L / ER309L / ER316L, IS 5856 codes ES 20.10 L, ES 24.13 L and ES 19.12.2 L).
Flux-cored wires — and the T0 against T1 trap
Kobelco DW-100 is AWS A5.20 E71T-1C at 570 MPa, and DW-50 is dual-classified E71T-1C/1M and -9C/9M. The Ador equivalent is Automig FC 71T-1, E71T-1C, IS 15769 code ET531RC-9, 600 MPa. On stainless flux-cored the match is partial and we will not pretend otherwise: Kobelco DW-308L is E308LT0-1/4, and Ador Miginox FC 308L is E308LT1-1/4. T0 is a flat-and-horizontal wire; T1 is all-position. Kobelco’s all-position grade is DW-308LP, which is E308LT1-1/4 and does match Miginox FC 308L exactly. If you are running DW-308L in the flat position, the Ador T1 wire will do the job; if your procedure is qualified to T0, that is a different classification and needs saying.
Cast iron and submerged arc
Kobelco CI-A1 is A5.15 ENi-CI and maps to Ador Castnickel (ENi-CI, IS 5511 E Ni G23). CI-A2 is ENiFe-CI and maps to Ferricast (ENiFe-CI, IS 5511 E Ni Fe CC23). On submerged arc, Kobelco sell named flux and wire pairs — MF-53/US-36 as F7A0-EH14, PF-H55E/US-36 as F7A4-EH14 — and Ador publish Automelt B71 against F7A4/P4-EH14 among a longer list. Cross-refer on the full F-number, because the flux determines half the deposit properties.
What Decides Whether a Substitution Is Acceptable
Your WPS, first and last
If the procedure names a classification, an equivalent classification satisfies it. If it names a brand — and on Japanese-designed plant it often does — you need a procedure revision or a written concession. That is a QA decision rather than a purchasing one, and we will tell you which case you are in before quoting.
Kobelco dual-classify; Ador sometimes do not
Kobelco publish flux-cored wires as E308LT0-1/4 — qualified under both CO2 and Ar-CO2 shielding. If the Ador equivalent is single-classified, the match is partial and depends on which gas your shop actually runs. Ask, and we will check it rather than assume.
Hardness scales do not convert cleanly
Kobelco publish hardfacing hardness in Vickers (Hv): HF-350 at Hv 350 nominal, HF-600 at Hv 600. Ador publish in HRc and BHN. Converting between the scales is an inference, not a published claim, and on hardfacing deposits the conversion tables are least reliable exactly where these products sit. We will compare them, and we will label the conversion as ours.
Kobelco hardfacing carries no AWS class at all
All 24 products in Kobelco’s hardfacing range print “—” in the AWS column of their own handbook. So there is no classification to match on either side, and any table claiming one is invented. The honest comparison is duty, wear mode and published hardness with the layer count stated.
Tensile moves with the shielding gas
MG-51T is published at 560 MPa under CO2 and 600 MPa under Ar-20%CO2; Automig I at 570 and 580 respectively. Comparing a CO2 number on one side to a mixed-gas number on the other will mislead you by 40 MPa. Quote the gas.
Hydrogen level on low-hydrogen grades
Ador’s IS 814 codes carry the H3 designation on Tenalloy 16 and Supabase. Where your procedure sets a diffusible-hydrogen limit, match that limit rather than the tensile, because on thick or restrained joints it is the number that matters.

How We Handle a Kobelco Cross-Reference Enquiry
We Check the Class Before We Check Anything Else
Given how often LB-52 is assumed to be an E7018, the first thing we do is confirm what the Kobelco product you name actually is. Sometimes the answer changes the enquiry entirely, and it is better found now than at inspection.
Send the Designation, Get the Class Comparison
Send the Kobelco designation from the packet or the procedure and we return the AWS class, the Ador product carrying it, the IS code Ador publish, and the published tensile with shielding gas stated on both sides.
WPS Review Before We Quote
Japanese-built plant frequently carries procedures that name Kobelco by product. If yours does, substitution is a concession question rather than a metallurgical one, and we will read the document with you.
Trial Packet Before a Full Changeover
Operator feel, slag release and restrike differ between brands at identical classification. On a shop running one electrode all day, a trial packet settles it better than any datasheet.
Hardfacing Handled by Duty, Not by Table
Because Kobelco publish no AWS class on any hardfacing product and publish hardness in Hv, we handle those by asking what the part does and what it is failing from. That conversation produces a better answer than a conversion table.
We Will Say When Not to Switch
If your procedure is qualified against a named Kobelco product and requalification is expensive, staying put is the right answer and we will tell you so.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are you a Kobelco dealer?
No. If you need the genuine Kobelco product, Kobe Steel publish their own distributor network and that is the right route.
What is the Ador equivalent of Kobelco LB-52?
First, check what you actually need. Kobelco publish LB-52 as AWS A5.1 E7016, not E7018 — the E7018 in that family is LB-52-18. If you need E7016, the Ador equivalent is Tenalloy 16 (E7016, IS 814 EB5426H3X, 560 MPa typical against Kobelco’s 570). If what you actually need is E7018, the Ador equivalent is Supabase. This distinction catches people out regularly, so it is worth checking the procedure rather than the packet.
What is the equivalent of DW-100?
Kobelco publish DW-100 as AWS A5.20 E71T-1C at 570 MPa typical. The Ador equivalent is Automig FC 71T-1, E71T-1C, IS 15769 code ET531RC-9, 600 MPa typical. Same class, same shielding, straight substitution subject to your procedure naming a class rather than a brand.
Is DW-308L the same as Ador Miginox FC 308L?
Not exactly, and the difference matters. Kobelco publish DW-308L as E308LT0-1/4 — a flat and horizontal wire. Ador publish Miginox FC 308L as E308LT1-1/4 — all-position. The correct Kobelco comparison for the Ador wire is DW-308LP, which is also T1. If your welding is flat-position only, the Ador T1 wire will do the work; if the procedure is qualified specifically to T0, that is a different classification and you should not substitute without a QA review.
Is MG-50 an ER70S-6?
No. Kobelco publish MG-50 as AWS A5.18 ER70S-G, where the G means the composition is not fixed by the specification. Their ER70S-6 is MG-51T. The Ador ER70S-6 is Automig I, IS 6419 code S4-C 504. If your WPS calls for ER70S-6 and your store is issuing MG-50, the deposit chemistry is not what the procedure assumed and that is worth raising internally.
Can you match Kobelco hardfacing?
Only on duty and published hardness, and we will label the comparison as ours. Every one of Kobelco’s 24 hardfacing products prints a dash in the AWS column of their own handbook — there is no classification to match. They also publish hardness in Vickers where Ador publish HRc and BHN, and converting between the scales is inference rather than a published claim. Tell us the component, the wear mode and how it is failing, and we will recommend an Ador grade on that basis with its published figure stated plainly.
Does Kobelco publish an IS number?
No. Kobelco publish AWS, EN and ASME F-No./A-No. classifications. Ador publish IS 814, IS 5206, IS 5511, IS 6419, IS 5856 and IS 15769 depending on the product family. Where a PSU or government tender is written in IS terms, the Ador datasheet answers it directly and the Kobelco one needs a translation step.
Do you publish Kobelco prices?
No. Manufacturer price lists circulated to distributor networks are confidential and republishing one would be wrong whoever it belonged to. Send us the classification you need and we will quote our own price against it.
Send us the Kobelco designation from your procedure
We will confirm what the Kobelco product actually is — which is not always what the packet suggests — then return the AWS class, the Ador product that carries it, the IS code, and the published tensile with shielding gas stated on both sides.
