If you run Mobil DTE, Mobilgear, Mobilux, Mobilith, Mobiltherm or Velocite and want to know what else carries the same published classification, this page is written for you. We are not an authorised Mobil or ExxonMobil distributor. Mobil and the product names on this page are trademarks of Exxon Mobil Corporation, used here only to identify products a buyer may be searching for. Where a customer requires the genuine Mobil product we will say so plainly and point them at ExxonMobil’s own distributor network. What follows is the useful part: what ExxonMobil publish today, which of those figures a like-for-like replacement has to match, and the grades we hold that carry them.
How to Cross-Refer a Mobil Product Properly
Match the Classification, Not the Viscosity
Two ISO VG 320 gear oils can be completely different products — one a mineral CLP oil, the other a polyglycol that must never be mixed with it. What makes two oils interchangeable is the classification: DIN 51517 Part 3 (CLP), ISO 12925-1 CKC or CKD, AGMA 9005, DIN 51524 Part 2 (HLP). Viscosity sets the film thickness; the classification tells you whether the additive package survives the duty. A cross-reference matched only on ISO VG is not a cross-reference.
Builder Approvals Do Not Travel
This is where most substitution advice quietly overreaches. ExxonMobil publish named builder approvals — Denison HF-0 and Eaton I-286-S on parts of the DTE 20 Series, Flender, SEW-Eurodrive, ZF and Renk on Mobilgear 600 XP grades. Those approvals belong to the specific product that earned them. We will match a published classification all day; we will not tell you an approval carries across, because it does not. If your warranty names one, that is a real constraint and we will say so.
Thickener Before NLGI Number
Greases are cross-referred wrongly more often than oils. Mobilux EP is lithium on mineral base oil; Mobilith SHC is lithium complex on synthetic base oil. Both come in NLGI 2. They are not substitutes for one another, and matching them on the NLGI number gets bearings hot. Read thickener, NLGI grade, base-oil viscosity at 40°C and operating temperature range — four figures, all published.
Ask What the Machine Needs, Not What the Drum Says
Plants inherit lubricant choices. A synthetic grease specified fifteen years ago for a duty that no longer exists is a cost you are still paying. When we cross-refer, we ask what the machine is, what it runs at, and what failed last — because sometimes the honest answer is a cheaper conventional product, and occasionally it is that you should stay exactly where you are.
Mobil Line by Line — What ExxonMobil Publish, and What Matches
Mobil DTE™ 20 Series — Hydraulic
ExxonMobil publish the series as ISO VG 10 to 150, designated DTE 21, 22, 24, 25, 26, 27 and 28, meeting DIN 51524-2:2006-09, with Denison HF-0, Eaton I-286-S and M-2950-S, Fives Cincinnati P-68 and P-70 and Husky HS 207 on named grades. What we quote: Veedol Avalon HLP 32/46/68, Balmerol Protomac HLP Series, Kixx HYDRO AW — all DIN 51524-2 HLP. For high-VI duty Veedol Avalon HVI PRO, and Avalon HVI ZF PRO where a zinc-free oil is required.
Mobilgear™ 600 XP Series — Industrial Gear
Published in seven grades, ISO VG 68 to 680, against DIN 51517-3:2018-09, ISO L-CKD (ISO 12925-1:2024) and AGMA 9005-F16, with Flender, SEW-Eurodrive, ZF and Renk approvals across various grades. What we quote: Veedol Apreslube (68 to 257) and Apreslube Gold Pro 220/320/460; Balmerol Protomac SP Series, which holds the CLP slot in Balmer Lawrie’s current range; Kixx GEAR EP. Matched on the CLP classification and grade, with the builder approvals discussed openly rather than assumed.
Mobil SHC™ Gear Series — Synthetic Gear
ExxonMobil’s synthetic industrial gear range. What we quote: Veedol Apreslube P Synth (the range formerly sold as Syngear SG 220/320/460) and Balmerol Synthgear M and MR, the MR grades being the PAO wind-turbine oils. One warning worth repeating: Balmer Lawrie also publish Synthgear GB, which is a polyglycol. Polyglycol is not intermixable with PAO or mineral oil, so the base-fluid family has to be confirmed before anything is poured.
Mobilux™ EP Series — Lithium Grease
Published as lithium-thickened mineral greases in NLGI 004, 023, 0, 1, 2 and 3. What we quote: Balmerol Liprex EP 000 to 3 — the current Balmer Lawrie lithium EP range — Veedol Alithex EP, and Kixx GREASE EP. Straightforward cross-reference on thickener, NLGI and base-oil viscosity, which is exactly why it is worth doing properly.
Mobilith SHC™ Series — Synthetic Grease
Published as lithium complex greases on synthetic base oils — SHC 007 (NLGI 00), 221 (NLGI 1), 460 and 1500 (NLGI 1.5), 100 and 220 (NLGI 2) — with operating ranges reaching −50°C to 150°C by grade. What we quote: the SELCO SG synthetic range, typically SG-350 HT for sustained high temperature or SG-460 EP Moly where load is the constraint. We do not offer a mineral lithium grease as a Mobilith substitute, because it is not one.
Mobiltherm™ 600 Series — Heat Transfer
Mobiltherm 603 and 605, mineral heat-transfer fluids for closed indirect systems. What we quote: Veedol Therm SF and Kixx HTO. Cross-referred on maximum bulk and film temperature and system type — a thermic fluid matched on viscosity is a fluid that will crack in service.
Mobil Velocite™ Oil Numbered Series — Spindle
Published as No. 3, 4, 6, 8 and 10 spindle and hydraulic oils, No. 6 being the familiar high-speed spindle grade. What we quote: the Veedol Spintex family, including Spintex D and Spintex Non-Stain where staining matters, plus Alweave PS. Graded from spindle speed and bearing clearance rather than from the Velocite number.
The Classifications That Decide a Mobil Substitution
DIN 51524 Part 2 (HLP)
The anti-wear hydraulic classification, and the single figure that decides most hydraulic substitutions. Mobil publish DIN 51524-2:2006-09 on the DTE 20 Series. Part 1 is HL without the anti-wear claim; Part 3 is HVLP for high viscosity index. Matching Part 2 to Part 1 is a downgrade even when the ISO VG agrees.
DIN 51517 Part 3 (CLP)
The classification for EP industrial gear oils, published by Mobil on Mobilgear 600 XP at DIN 51517-3:2018-09. This is the figure a mineral gear-oil substitution has to carry. Note that a polyglycol gear oil published only as ISO 12925-1 CKE is not a CLP oil and is not a drop-in for one.
ISO 12925-1 CKD and AGMA 9005-F16
Mobil publish ISO L-CKD (ISO 12925-1:2024) and AGMA 9005-F16 across the Mobilgear 600 XP grades. CKD covers the more severe gear duty; where a tender or OEM sheet names one of these explicitly, we quote only grades whose own datasheets publish it.
Builder Approvals — Denison, Eaton, Flender, SEW, ZF, Renk
These are approvals granted to a specific formulation, not properties of a classification. They are the honest boundary of any cross-reference. We will tell you which of them your machine actually requires versus which are simply printed on the sheet — often it is fewer than you think.
NLGI Grade With Thickener and Base Oil
For greases, four published figures decide a substitution: thickener type (lithium versus lithium complex), NLGI grade, base-oil viscosity at 40°C and operating temperature range. Mobilux EP and Mobilith SHC share NLGI numbers and share almost nothing else. This is the most common bad cross-reference in the market.

A photograph of the drum label, a line from an invoice, or the lubrication chart page is enough. Tell us the machine and, if you know it, the last failure. That is more useful than the product name on its own.

Trial Quantities Before Plant-Wide
Most fluid lines are available in a pail or a single drum for a trial on one machine. Changing a plant standard on a supplier’s promise is not good practice; changing it on your own oil-analysis results is.
Changeover Support Comes With It
Flush procedure, compatibility check and ISO 4406 cleanliness measurement on request. We provide the procedure whether or not the order lands, because a bad changeover damages the machine and nobody wins that.
When Mobil Is the Right Answer
If your equipment is under warranty with a builder approval named on it, or the plant standard is written into a customer contract, staying with the genuine product is the correct call. ExxonMobil publish an authorised distributor network for exactly that. We would rather tell you that than sell you a problem.

What is the equivalent of Mobil DTE 25?
Mobil publish DTE 25 as ISO VG 46 in the Mobil DTE™ 20 Series, meeting DIN 51524-2:2006-09, with Denison HF-0, Eaton I-286-S and M-2950-S and Fives Cincinnati P-70 among its builder approvals. A like-for-like replacement has to carry DIN 51524-2 at ISO VG 46 — Veedol Avalon HLP 46, Balmerol Protomac HLP 46 and Kixx HYDRO AW 46 all do. Where it gets interesting is the builder list: if your pump warranty names Denison HF-0 or Eaton specifically, tell us at enquiry stage and we will check that approval grade by grade rather than assume it carries across.
What matches Mobilgear 600 XP 220?
Mobil publish the Mobilgear™ 600 XP Series in ISO VG 68 to 680 against DIN 51517-3:2018-09, ISO L-CKD (ISO 12925-1:2024) and AGMA 9005-F16, with Flender, SEW-Eurodrive, ZF and Renk approvals on various grades. At VG 220 the usual answers are Veedol Apreslube 220 and Balmerol Protomac SP 220, both mineral EP gear oils in the CLP class, plus Kixx GEAR EP 220. The Flender and SEW approvals are the part that does not automatically transfer — if your gearbox is under an OEM warranty that names one, say so and we will tell you honestly whether we can match it.
Is there an equivalent to Mobilux EP 2?
Mobil publish the Mobilux™ EP Series as lithium-thickened mineral greases in NLGI 004, 023, 0, 1, 2 and 3. At NLGI 2 the direct answers are Balmerol Liprex EP 2 and Veedol Alithex EP 2, both lithium EP greases, and Kixx GREASE EP 2. Match on four published things: thickener type, NLGI grade, base-oil viscosity at 40°C and the operating temperature range. A grease matched on NLGI number alone is not matched.
What is the equivalent of Mobilith SHC 220?
Careful here — this is the substitution people get wrong. Mobil publish the Mobilith SHC™ Series as lithium complex greases on synthetic base oils, with an operating range reaching −50°C to 150°C depending on grade. A conventional lithium mineral grease is not a like-for-like replacement no matter how well the NLGI number lines up. For genuinely synthetic high-temperature duty we would propose the SELCO SG synthetic grease range — SG-350 HT or SG-460 EP Moly depending on load and temperature. If the application is ordinary bearing duty and the synthetic was over-specified in the first place, we will say that too.
Do you have an alternative to Mobiltherm 605?
Mobil publish the Mobiltherm™ 600 Series (603 and 605) as mineral heat-transfer fluids for closed indirect systems. Veedol Therm SF and Kixx HTO are the grades we would quote against it. The figures that matter on a thermic fluid are the maximum bulk and film temperatures, not viscosity — run above the published film temperature and the fluid cracks whatever the label says. Send us your heater outlet temperature and system type and we will match on those.
What replaces Mobil Velocite Oil No. 6 on a grinder spindle?
Mobil publish the Mobil Velocite™ Oil Numbered Series (No. 3, 4, 6, 8 and 10) as spindle and hydraulic oils, No. 6 being the common high-speed spindle grade. Veedol Spintex is the family we would cross-refer to, with the grade chosen from your spindle speed and bearing clearance rather than from the Velocite number alone. On high-speed spindles a viscosity error of one grade is a bearing-temperature problem, so we ask for the machine and spindle rating before quoting.
Can I mix a Mobil oil with the grade you supply during a top-up?
For mineral oils in the same classification and viscosity grade — a DIN 51524-2 HLP 46 topped up with another DIN 51524-2 HLP 46 — mixing is normally tolerated for a top-up, though additive systems differ and no manufacturer will warrant a mixture. Two cases where the answer is a firm no: polyglycol and mineral gear oils are not intermixable at all, and synthetic lithium-complex greases should not be mixed into a conventional lithium grease. If you are changing over rather than topping up, ask us for the flush procedure — we will send it whether or not you buy the oil.
Why should I not just match the ISO VG number?
Because ISO VG is one number out of a specification sheet that usually runs to twenty. Two ISO VG 320 gear oils can be a mineral CLP oil and a polyglycol, which behave nothing alike and must never be mixed. Viscosity sets film thickness; the classification — DIN 51517-3, ISO 12925-1 CKD, DIN 51524-2, AGMA 9005 — tells you whether the additive package will survive the duty. Any cross-reference offered to you on viscosity alone, from us or anyone else, is worth exactly what you paid for it.
Do you publish Mobil prices?
No. Manufacturer price lists circulated to distributor networks are confidential documents and republishing one would be wrong whoever it belonged to. Ask us to quote an alternative against your Mobil grade and we will give you our price directly, with the specification comparison alongside it.
Which brands are you actually authorised for?

We name our authorisations precisely because the word gets used loosely in this market — if a supplier tells you they are authorised for a brand, it is a fair question to ask them to show you the letter.
