Explosion-Protected Dust Collectors
Dust collection for combustible dust — aluminium and magnesium from grinding, polishing and cutting, and other dusts that can burn in a cloud. Dry collectors with explosion venting and isolation, and wet collectors for light-metal dust. Selected after the dust and process are reviewed, and supplied against order from Secunderabad.

Combustible dust collection at a glance
| Application | What usually fits |
|---|---|
| Aluminium and magnesium grinding, polishing, sanding | Wet collector or explosion-protected dry collector — never a standard collector |
| Laser or plasma cutting of aluminium | Explosion-protected collector sized to the cutting table |
| Hand grinding of light-metal parts | Explosion-protected grinding workstation |
| Indoor dry collector | Needs flameless venting or suppression; vent ducts to outside where possible |
| Ducting | Isolation valve between collector and work area, earthed conductive ducting |
| How we supply | Against order, after a dust and process review; certificates for the model on request |
Why combustible dust needs a different collector
Fine aluminium and magnesium dust, and many other dusts, burn fast enough in a cloud to explode. A dust collector holds exactly that cloud inside its housing. A spark from grinding, a static discharge or a hot particle can ignite it, and the flame can travel back along the ducting to the work area. Explosion protection works in layers: keep ignition sources out, contain or vent the explosion safely, and stop it travelling back.
Explosion venting
Panels that open at a set pressure and release the explosion away from people. Flameless vents allow indoor installation where venting outside is not possible.
Isolation
Non-return or isolation valves in the inlet duct stop the flame and pressure travelling back to the machine and operator.
Anti-static construction
Anti-static filter media, earthed housings and conductive ducting so static charge cannot build up and spark.
Spark control
Spark arrestors or pre-separators at the inlet stop hot particles from grinding reaching the filters.
Wet collectors
Dust is captured in water, so no dry dust cloud forms. Common for aluminium and magnesium; the sludge is handled as the dust requires.
Housekeeping
Regular emptying, no dust build-up on ducts and floors, and no mixing of light-metal dust with other dusts.
What we need to recommend a unit
| Point | What to tell us |
|---|---|
| Material | Aluminium, magnesium, titanium or another dust; any test data on the dust you already have |
| Process | Grinding, polishing, sanding, cutting or blasting; hand or machine |
| Pickup points | Number of benches, machines or tables, and the duct route |
| Location | Indoor or outdoor collector; space available |
| Supply | 230 V or 415 V; compressed air for pulse cleaning on dry units |
The final choice depends on your plant’s hazard assessment. Ask us for the explosion-protection certificates and test reports for the specific model before ordering. For non-combustible dust see industrial dust collectors.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why can’t I use a standard dust collector for aluminium dust?
Fine aluminium dust can explode in a cloud, and a dust collector holds that cloud. A standard collector has no venting, isolation or anti-static construction, so an ignition inside it can injure people and spread back along the ducting.
Wet or dry collector for aluminium and magnesium?
Wet collectors capture the dust in water so no dry cloud forms, and are common for light metals. Dry collectors can be used with explosion venting, isolation and anti-static filters. The choice depends on the dust quantity, process and site.
What is explosion venting?
Vent panels open at a set pressure to release an explosion safely, away from people. Flameless vents contain the flame so a collector can stand indoors.
Can an explosion-protected collector stand indoors?
Often yes, with flameless venting or suppression. Placing dry collectors outdoors, with vents directed to a safe area, is preferred where space allows.
Do laser cutting machines cutting aluminium need explosion protection?
Cutting large amounts of aluminium on a laser or plasma table produces fine combustible dust. The collector should be selected for it; tell us the share of aluminium you cut.
Do you supply replacement anti-static filters?
Yes. Replacement filters and spares are supplied on order for the equipment we supply.
