What it is

A shear-stable, high viscosity index anti-wear hydraulic fluid for systems that see wide swings in ambient and operating temperature. Where AW and HD are steady-state oils, HDZ is the one for equipment that has to work cold and hot in the same shift.

Why a viscosity index of 152 is the whole point

A standard hydraulic oil sits around VI 105. HDZ is published at 152, which means the oil thins far less as it warms and thickens far less as it cools. On a machine that starts cold at dawn and runs hot by afternoon — or a fork-lift moving between a refrigerated store and a yard — that is the difference between a pump that cavitates on start-up and one that does not.

The pour point says the same thing from the other end: −45 °C in ISO 32. It is a shear-stable multigrade, so the VI is not an additive effect that disappears after a few hundred hours in a high-pressure system.

It is the grade for marine deck equipment, steering gears and bow thrusters, and for NC machine tools where thermal stability of the fluid shows up directly in the part.
