What it is
An anti-wear hydraulic fluid for mobile and stationary high-pressure hydraulic systems, published in eight ISO grades from 32 to 460 — the widest spread in the Kixx hydraulic range, which is what makes it the one that covers a mixed plant from a single supplier.
Applications
- Industrial hydraulics and industrial circulating systems
- Hydraulics on mobile and construction equipment
- Systems with vane, gear or piston pumps
- Plastic injection moulding machines
- Lightly loaded gear systems
- Machine tools
Performance standards it is written against
- ISO 11158 Type HM
- Denison HF-1
- Vickers I-286-S (industrial) / M-2950S (mobile)
- DIN 51524 Part 1
What that buys you
- High protection against wear
- Very good hydrolytic stability and water separation
- Protection against rust and corrosion
- High oxidation stability for extended service life
- Good anti-foam and air-release, so the system runs smoothly rather than spongily

AW or HD? The published numbers answer it
In ISO 32, 46 and 68 the two run remarkably close on paper — identical density, viscosity, viscosity index, pour point and flash point on GS Caltex’s own sheets. The difference is not the oil’s physics, it is what the oil is approved against and how long it lasts.
HYDRO AW carries ISO 11158 HM, Denison HF-1, Vickers I-286-S and M-2950S and DIN 51524 Part 1. HYDRO HD adds Denison HF-0, Vickers M-2952-S, three Cincinnati Milacron numbers, Mannesmann Rexroth RE 07 075, Bosch RE 90220, US Steel 126 and 127 and DIN 51524 Part 2 HLP — and publishes a TOST oxidation life over 4,500 hours, which AW’s sheet does not quote at all.
So: if the machine builder names a specification, read the list. If nothing is specified and the system runs hot or long between changes, HD is the one with the oxidation figure behind it. And AW is the only one of the two published up to ISO 460, so above 68 the choice makes itself.
